Vacancy: Technician for the microscope facility

Description of the function

As lab technician you will primarily manage the microscopy facility and use the different instruments as requested by researchers. Outside microscopy you will have other tasks in the area of molecular biology, or cellular biology.

This is a sample of your tasks:

  • Use of the confocal and light sheet fluorescence microscopes
  • Preparing samples for microscopy, e.g. clearing, fixation, dye
  • Analyze the images obtained, including quantification
  • Molecular biology: RNA/DNA extraction, (qRT-)PCR, Western blot
  • Culture and manipulation of human pluripotent stem cells and embryos
  • Management of the logbook and the agenda of the microscopy facility


For this function, the Brussels Health Campus (Jette) will be your home base



Required expertise and/or diploma: professional bachelor in biomedical lab technology, or equivalent

  • The use of the microscopes will be trained by technicians of the company
  • You have a good written and verbal communication in English (Dutch is recommended)
  • You have a basic knowledge of molecular biology
  • You have a basic knowledge of cell culture and sterile work
  • You know how to use MS Office and in particular online tools for appointments such as Outlook agenda
  • You can work independently and you are flexible
  • You are always discrete and with integrity
  • You like to take initiative and are always willing to learn
  • You are a problem solver, you are known to proactively look for solutions
  • You can adapt to new circumstances or when meeting new people and you can take it when it gets busier or when there are setbacks
  • You feel concerned with the success of the university and understand the importance of a strong administrative and reliable service



We offer a contract of indefinite duration with a salary coupled to grade 4, 5 or 6 depending on your competences and previous relevant work experience.
