Dr. Maria Tryfonos

Maria following the completion of a BSc degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Essex, UK, continued her studies with an MSc in Reproductive and Developmental Biology at Imperial College London, UK. She was then awarded a EUTOPIA funding to pursue a joint PhD in Medical Sciences at the University of Warwick, UK and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium. Maria is co-supervised by Prof. Jan Brosens (UK) and Prof. Hilde Van de Velde (Belgium). She is working on optimising a 3D model of the human endometrium to recapitulate implantation in vitro using human embryos donated for research. This can provide a powerful tool to shed light into the black box of implantation failure and miscarriage.
