Prof. Dr. Hilde Van de Velde

Hilde Van de Velde studied Biology (Botany) at the VUB where she obtained the degree of Master in Science at the Faculty of Sciences in 1985. At the same university she also obtained the degree of Master in Medical and Pharmaceutical Research (Immunology) at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in 1989. Finally she obtained the degree of PhD in Medical Sciences (Immunology) at the same Faculty in 1995. She works as a clinical embryologist in the Centre for Reproductive Medicine (UZ Brussel) since 1996; and she is also the coordinator for fundamental, translational and clinical research in the IVF laboratory since 2009. She is the director of the research group Reproduction and Immunology (REIM) at the VUB since 2016. She is particularly interested in totipotency and early differentiation in human embryonic cells on the one hand and in the communication between the human embryo and the endometrium during implantation on the other hand. She is member of the Federal Committee for research on human embryos in vitro since 2013. She is professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy since 2010, she teaches “Fertilisation, embryogenesis and implantation in the human”.
