Prof. Dr. Katrien Stouffs
Biography
Katrien Stouffs has completed a master degree in Biomedical Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The topic of her master thesis and PhD was 'Genetics of male infertility'. Fascinated by this topic, she is still trying to unravel the genetic background of defects during spermatogenesis. With the availability of Massive Parallel Sequencing (MPS), it is now possible the investigate the complete exome or even genome and combine data at the DNA and RNA level to gain full insight into possible genetic defects causing spermatogenesis failure.
Besides this topic, she is also involved in research projects aiming to understand the 'malformations of cortical development'. The different projects aim at the further identification of genes involved in the regulation of neuronal migration and the study of the functional consequences of variants in these genes, starting from a patient-driven approach. This will result in mapping of major pathways involved in cortical development and function.
