Prof. Dr. Mieke Geens

I am an enthusiastic, devoted and open-minded researcher in the area of human pluripotent stem cells. My research is mainly focused on exploring the differentiation potential and possible malignancy of these cells.

I have studied Biomedical Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium), and graduated with high distinction in 2005. I subsequently received a PhD grant at the Fund for Scientific Research Flanders (FWO-Vlaanderen) and defended my thesis in May 2010 at the research group Biology of the Testis. In June 2010, I started working as a post-doctoral researcher in the research group Reproduction and Genetics, where I currently hold the position of co-principal investigator. 

I have experienced that - besides the research itself - other aspects of my job really suited me: the performance of coordinative tasks, as well as project management and student training. As a personal characteristic, I highly value teamwork; colleagues can count on me and I will always consider their input. Moreover, as an ex-international athlete in middle-distance and cross-country running, I have proven to be perseverant, stress-resistant and a hard worker.
