Biography
Silvie Franck studied Cell & System Biology at the University Antwerp (Belgium). During her last master year, she completed a one-year internship at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp (ITM). Here, at the Molecular Parasitology Unit, she studied Leischmania Donovani, a parasite causing the devastating disease Leischmaniasis. From that point on, she knew that human diseases in general was her topic where she wanted to learn more about. In December 2015 she joined the REGE lab, exploring mechanisms of CTG repeat instability in the DMPK gene, eventually causing myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1).
